From October 1, 2026, the Imabari–Fukuyama route of the highway bus "Shimanami Liner" will move to a reservation system. In this article, I'll go over why the change is happening, the new fares, what it might mean for Shimanami Kaido cyclists and rental bike users, and a few ideas for getting through the busy season, drawing on my own experience of using this route.
